When reading, your heart should pound as if you're prey and race in anticipation of a kiss…

"A great book increases my heartbeat,  as if I’m prey , melts my insides in anticipation of a first kiss, and immerses me in its depths, never letting go." Me (an avid reader, long before I was a writer) Ahhh … isn’t that the truth? I love to read from all POVs--well, to a point, I still don't like head-hopping, but one or two in a chapter, as long as it's clear who's speaking, is okay with me, as I want to feel the characters' thoughts--ALL of them. So my goal as a writer is to put you inside the head of the protagonist and the proverbial bad guy’s head. Why? Because I believe you invest even more of yourself as a reader into the story if you know why the characters are doing what they are doing. At least, as a reader, I've always enjoyed diving into the bad guy's head, understanding why he's doing what he's doing, and yes, I'm not opposed to the bad guy actually being a woman. They may be the bad guy, but t...

Myths, superheroes...prepare to believe. The Creatus Series

For four thousand years, creatus have concealed themselves from the humans who hunted them almost to extinction. Unwittingly, one creatus will endanger them all... As with most of his family, Derrick Ashton knows his future and what position he's destined to fill within his unique society. Everything changes, however, when he breaks one of his family's strictest laws and falls in love--with a human. In his quest to protect the woman he can never have, a twist of faith propels him into a new role that will cause dissension among his family and endanger the anonymity that they've strived for thousands of years to protect. Now, he will risk everything to save the girl from humans and his own kind. The one thing he can't save her from, however ... is herself. The Creatus Series is not your normal paranormal story ... it's a realistic romantic mystery based on the myths you've heard your entire life. Prepare to believe. ...

What do you do when you can’t find the motivation to write? #AmWriting...or maybe I'm not...

I’m not talking about writer’s block. That was a different post . What happens when you know where you’re going … know what scene you want to write next, but just don’t feel like it? Sometimes, things that happen in my personal life twist me up in knots, and I just don’t feel it. Oh, I know I should be writing. I want to write. I just can’t seem to turn off all the distractions and just do it . Well, writing a blog post about your issue is one answer. Posing the question to my writing community is one of the first things I do. Although, usually, I’ll wait for the answer to my dilemma before posting. After all, even though I asked the question that brought you here, I assume you’re here because you also want to know what to do when this happens to you. Of course, if you’re here because you have an answer, please leave it in the comment section. What might work for some, might not work for others, so the more solutions to this dilemma, the better. Okay … so ...

Obsession, the domination of one's thoughts by a persistent desire... And a great theme...

Full definition: Obsession, the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc...  An impulse that continually forces its way into consciousness, often associated with anxiety and mental illness... And, DANG ... it sure makes for good stories.  When I started writing my first book, I had no idea that the central focus would be on obsession, and not just one obsession, but several. As I wrote the second, third, fourth, and fifth, I still hadn't realized it. When I looked back at my Southern Romantic-Suspense Collection, I realized each book had something in common: obsession. Whether the antagonist obsessed over a person or money, their obsession is what fueled the story. Sometimes, in my stories, it looks as though the protagonist may be the one obsessed, but as one of my characters pointed out... Names have been changed to protect the innocent--I mean, avoid spoilers.   Excerpt from  Entangled Dre...

How many books can you read in a month? As many as you want...with #KindleUnlimited!

I'm not into jumping on a bandwagon, but if I see something that's good, and I don't have anything to lose, I'm in! Plus, if it looks like a great opportunity for my avid-reading friends and a chance to meet new friends, I love to share the news. Amazon   sent   the book-loving world into a tailspin with its announcement of Kindle Unlimited. This service isn't the first of its kind, but  this is Amazon, so you know it's   gonna   be awesome. That's my opinion, of course, but I'm very happy with the benefits and service I receive from Amazon. I've had several Kindles, and they just keep getting better and better.  And now ... they have Kindle Unlimited, which gives me an unlimited supply of books for $9.99 a month! Considering that I read three or more books a week, with a price tag up to $9.99 (I don't pay more than $10 for an eBook), this is an awesome deal for someone like me. Oh, and I listen to another two to three books a mon...

Sweet, Sexy, and Stalwart... Meet the Leading Men in my Southern Romantic-Suspense Collection

Different men, different backgrounds, different lifestyles, all searching for the same thing. Of course ... when I say meet my men, I mean ... let me describe them to you.  I've always been adamant about not having men on my  book covers . To me, the best thing about reading is that my imagination builds up in my mind what I believe the leading character looks like, and my image will always be different from the readers ... one of the reasons I believe movies fall short  for  avid readers. Yes, I do have a lot of male readers, but men are visual. So... Men, enjoy the covers!  Ladies, Happy I magining ! :) Meet the rugged detective and construction company owner from She Belongs to Me Jordan is also in...
